Below is some of the wonderful poetry that we were unable to put in.Trouser Ends and Cradles
For Eugene Niland, R.I.P.
Trouser ends were all I could see
Ironed free of creases by the sting of a less-than-holy tear
Rattling around its cranial pinball machine
Not even slightly scuffed, student shoes, all patent and black and ready to stir this Colossus of weight
Cradled I was in arms
Just as you
Cradled by eternal satin and polished grain
Sinew and strain
Yellow socks fade in the wash
Spun by a shock of unruly, orange tangle and dancing fingertips of delighted and exuberant explanation
Here, just trouser ends and cradles that don't belong to your occasion.
I can find another plane of peace
Take my mountain ash
Sacred, windswept rowan
Lay there and grow
Be shelter to footprints in the snow
And harvest not trouser ends and polished grain
R.V. - Richard Vance
